Indiana’s RⱯHM has dropped his enticing new single, ‘tree in a sidewalk’. There is an eerie atmosphere created by the combination of a distant piano loop and glitching electronic sounds, but they end up creating the perfect bed for his falsetto. There is a complex level of detail hidden within ‘tree in a sidewalk’. From that opening hook (‘what can you do with all those thoughts?’) recorded through a computer mic, to the incredible swell of bass and noise that takes us to the track’s climax, it’s masterfully arranged. “You can look at something like a pitiful little elm, planted in a rusty meagre old sidewalk grill in a vast useless parking lot of some empty Party City in middle America, and not think to yourself how horrible everything is,” he says. -Dan Peeke
